Impact Investing in Vietnam
All around the world, impact investing has received tremendous support from business leaders, government, and academia. As impact investing moves into the mainstream, there is a major shift in people’s attitude about the role of capital in building stronger communities and producing direct benefits for the planet. This momentum creates opportunities for investors to implement strategies that embrace environmental, social and governance principles while generating market-rate returns. The amount of capital at work ($502 billion) to address the world’s social and environmental problems (including but not limited to climate change, financial inclusion, education access, and healthcare) signals strong growth prospects for sustainable finance and communities across the world.
As Vietnam's economic development undergoes significant growth, its market also gives rise to investment opportunities that generate positive social impact and competitive risk-adjusted returns. How has impact investing helped generate returns while tackling social and environmental issues in Vietnam? Where has there been progress in impact investing and where can impact fund managers look for investment opportunities in Vietnam? Vietnam Finance Society (VFS) is proud to bring together a panel of leading impact investors with insights into Vietnam’s capital markets and investment opportunities. Join us for an open discussion about impact investing in Vietnam as we exchange our perspectives on the rewards and challenges of generating social change through sustainable finance.

A Dialogue on Vietnam's Economic Development
Vietnam, during the past 35 years, has been a remarkable development story. Economic reforms that began under Đổi Mới ("Renovation", launched in 1986) have spurred rapid economic growth and transformed Vietnam from one of the world’s poorest to an up-and-coming export powerhouse, or, as others have called it, Asia's latest emerging "tiger economy". It is high time for anyone who follows the development trajectory of Vietnam's economy and market, as the country undergoes significant and exciting economic, socio-political and demographic changes.
As macro uncertainties abound and tensions between the US and China show no signs of abating, Vietnam's attractiveness as a manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia has increased. Will this growth trend continue in light of US-China trade tensions and potential global economic downturn? Is Vietnam structurally and politically prepared for this new wave of private wealth and investor interest? Join us for an open dialogue with Dr. Edmund Malesky of Duke University and Dr. Anh Tran of Indiana University, as we bridge the gap between Vietnam and the United States.
